The Lombardy region was until now known above all for being the economic and productive heart of Italy. Today, Milan and Lombardy also reveal themselves to be destinations that enchant the elite of international tourism, with an unparalleled heritage of art, refinement and nature.
Nature which in winter above all means mountains or, better yet, skiing. Among the most renowned locations are Livigno and Bormio, future protagonists of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Ticket sales for the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics will begin in February 2025.
Livigno is nicknamed the "Little Tibet" due to its particular geographical position. With 115 km of slopes between 1,816 and 2,900 meters above sea level, it is among the most complete areas in the Alps. Among its strong points are one of the largest snow parks in Europe and an heliski service for freeride lovers.
Livigno also stands out for its lively après-ski offer, including wellness centers, trendy clubs and the possibility of duty free shopping, which makes it even more intriguing for a stay on the snow.
Bormio has two incredible strength points. First of all, 50 km of slopes with an impressive height difference of 1,800 meters. Among these, the legendary Stelvio slope stands out, scene of the historic World Cup downhill.
And then the thermal waters, already known by the Romans for their beneficial therapeutic effects. Pliny the Elder (1st century) reports it in his Natural History. Cassiodorus (6th century) also mentions the thermal springs of Bormio, recommending their excellent treatments.
CREMONA: JEWEL OF LOMBARDY BETWEEN VIOLINS AND TORRONE
Cremona is the Lombard city to discover in these winter months. Home of the violin and of the torrone sweet, the city is a true jewel of art and culture.
Violin making constitutes the most characteristic element of the locality, the one for which it is known as unique on the world scene and which earned it the UNESCO recognition of intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2012.
Here, over 500 years ago, the violin was born, to which a museum is dedicated today. In Room 5 of the Violin Museum of Cremona, called "The treasure chest", the most important instruments of the great classical Cremonese masters are exhibited. Among Antonio Stradivari's famous instruments, the "Cremonese" violin (1715) stands out.
“Tis God gives skills, but not without men's hand: He could not make Antonio Stradivari's violins without Antonio.”
George Eliot
