La forza del destino (The Strength of Destiny) by Giuseppe Verdi inaugurated the 2024/2025 Opera Season of the legendary Teatro alla Scala in Milan, on December 7.
A dramaturgically complex work, born in 1862 in St. Petersburg and arriving in its definitive version at La Scala in 1869, with the creation of the famous Symphony, La forza del destino offers some of Verdi's most memorable melodies.
MORE THAN JUST A SHOW, THE SCALA’S PREMIERE IS MILAN’S MOST AWAITED EVENT
Over the years, countless illustrious guests have graced the premieres at the Teatro alla Scala, making the red carpet a showcase of glamour and elegance.
From the dazzling gowns to the iconic photos, the evening is steeped in both cultural and sartorial tradition.
This year too, the glamorous tradition was respected: the most important Made in Italy high fashion brands walked the red carpet. The outfits stood out for their elegance, with spectacular dresses that stole the scene thanks to the skillful use of fine fabrics, especially velvet.
Until the 1950s, La Scala traditionally opened the season on December 26, on Boxing Day. But in 1951, the conductor Victor De Sabata moved the date to December 7, in honor of the patron saint of Milan, Sant'Ambrogio. That same evening, Maria Callas made history with her first great triumph in Milan, performing in I Vespri Siciliani.
Olympia Waters has created an entire experience dedicated to the extraordinary life of Maria Callas, the Divine.
