Autumn takes you to Piedmont, to the International Alba White Truffle Fair, a showcase of one of the main Italian excellences.
From October 12 to December 8, the territory of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato combines high-level food and wine with important cultural and musical events. All in the name of his majesty: the White Truffle of Alba.
The Tuber magnatum Pico is the most precious asset of these lands. Alba is recognized as the world truffle capital and a cult place of international gastronomy.
Since the first edition in 1929, the Fair has contributed to making the area and the unique characteristics of this highly prized tuber known.
ALBA WHITE TRUFFLE: FROM THE MARKET TO UNUSUAL DINNERS
The Market, the beating heart of the fair, is a sacred moment for the inhabitants and truffle hunters. The trifolau (“truffle hunters”, according to local vernacular) shyly approach the buying and selling, hiding the fruit of their patient research at the bottom of the pockets of the traditional moleskin jackets. Then, when the atmosphere heats up, they begin to reveal their treasures, reserving the most prized pieces for true connoisseurs.
Truffle "hunting" is an ancient tradition, handed down between generations. From September to December, men and dogs have always chased the dream of finding the truffle they have never seen.
The Alba White Truffle Fair also offers unmissable opportunities to enjoy this wonder of nature. Like the Unusual Dinners, held in locations not normally used for catering. Among others, worth mentioning is the dinner at the "G. Busca" Social Theatre in Alba (November 1, with Chef Philippe Lévellè, 2 Michelin Stars) and the one at Fort Bard (November 22, with Chef Luigi Taglienti).
After the guided tour of these places of historical and cultural value, you will be able to enjoy an excellent dinner in which the Alba White Truffle and local wines will be the protagonists. In addition to truffles, in fact, the wines of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato are also precious gems. The wine-growing landscapes of these territories are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
AT THE CASTLE OF GRINZANE CAVOUR WITH THE TRUFFLE KNIGHTS
The Order of Knights of Truffle and Wines of Alba takes care of enhancing the inimitable local flavors and aromas. Founded in 1967 by 21 members, today this food and wine brotherhood has over 2,000 Knights, located all over the world.
Thanks to Olympia Waters you can have exclusive access to this world of initiates. We therefore invite you to meet a Master, to visit the headquarters of the Order at the Grinzane Cavour Castle and to share an unforgettable dinner based on traditional dishes in which the Alba White Truffle is the protagonist, prepared according to authentic recipes and accompanied by selected wines.
